Mizuno is a well-known brand for Made In Japan. Of all the Rebula models, Rebula 3 is one boot where engineers have worked a little extra to ensure they do not miss on comfort and class. It is a worthy power boot that graces our boot markets. Mizuno has been in the process of ensuring they have the best boot for their customers. 

The first two  Rebula versions had the Mizuna feel and quality, but they were not having they were not having the kind of elegance that a popular player would like to put on their feet. Many expected a lot from Rebula 1 because of Mizuno’s unmatched quality. Rebula 1 had proper padding in appropriate areas with a barefoot feel. Everything was fine apart from the fit. 

The Rebula 2 was even worse. The boot was very tight on the forefoot, and a player could not even reach the half-time before getting blisters. This issue was unheard of with Mizuno Made in Japan boots. Mizuno’s Rebula series had started becoming an issue in their product line-up, which has a great reputation for class and comfort.

Product overview

The boot is crafted using FTS: a rebound foam, which was last used to make Mizuno’s Supersonic Wave Series. The foam offers extra cushioning during the ball control without compromising the feel of the boot. Mizuno trusted the foam cage approach using CT Frame to ensure the boot maintains its shape. 

The resourcefulness of the foam cage approach is one of the greatest secrets in most quality and well-known leather boots. The foam cage allows the shoe to retain its basic leather feel while still preventing the overstretching of the leather, avoiding the need for stitching your boot. This approach enables the manufacture to use a constant amount of leather for a continuous and consistent touch while still minimising water intake. The design reduces any benefits synthetics boots may previously have had over leather boots.

The upper leather on Rebula 3 is more generous, making almost 70% of the entire boot, as the CT frame goes through some slight tweak in shape. The frame gives the boot the padding where it is most needed. The upper leather is supplemented with a synthetic material on the heel area. It has a system that connects the heels to the laces, offering an additional structure, which prevents overstretching, providing an improved lockdown. 

The tongue of Rebula 3 Elite FG has also been improved. The tongue is made from a synthetic polymer for a traditional thin mesh. For easy entry, the tongue is not entirely attached to the boot’s upper. The lace holes have a shape that offers a zigzag pattern, allowing you to tighten certain areas without affecting other holes. You can find these features in Mizuno Morelia Neo 2, and it seems to have made a comeback with the Rebula 3 model. 

The Rebula series makes the greatest evolution on the sole of the boot. It uses a modern TPU to give the boot strength and make it lighter. The D-Flex groove and stability spine work hand in hand to provide the outsole with a stable and well-structured balance. This gives the shoes a great flex at appropriate spots. The conical studs offer a balanced feel when pushing off or pivoting.

1. Rebula 3 Elite FG fitting

After the fitting failed on Mizuno Rebula 1 and 2, Mizuno worked on the fitting quite well with their Rebula 3. Rebula 3 returned the great reputation that Mizuno had lost with an even loftier boot. The boot has a rounded shape for accommodating wider feet. The boot is also available for large-sized feet. We recommend you go down the half a size. Although it may feel tight once you start wearing it, the soft leather will mould it to fit your foot properly. When you are wearing these boots, the feel is always amazing. They give you that barefoot feel, and you might feel like you are wearing socks. They are so comfortable, and you would even wear them to your bed. 

The lockdown of these boots feels more than enough. Thanks to the heal pudding. The padding cups the boots’ heel, the wave-fit system, and the midfoot synthetic. Different padding works toward giving you a great and customised fit depending on the shape of your foot. 

The enhanced heel offers an improved balance between comfort and lockdown. In the Rebula 3, Mizuno has removed gritty grip material in the boot’s insole. This is after players complained that the material caused the bunching up of their socks. However, they should have implemented it in their Rebula 3 Elite FG as it was not that bad. The alternative for the previous insole is a thin cardboard foam without frills. The insole does not have Poron inserts to offer additional comfort. We think they should have found a better alternative with non-slip features. 

2. Conical studs

The Mizuno Rebula 3 boots have conical studs which easily penetrate in and out of the football pitch ground. These conical studs offer quick pivots and turns, providing a comfortable experience for players. The improved stud pattern feels a bit more aggressive than their previous versions. The pattern functions beautifully, especially on FG, and players love the feeling. 

3. Weight

The boot weighs only 21g, yet it feels solid compared to what you would think. The lightweight nature of this boot gives you a barefoot feel. This feature provides footballers additional running power on the field as no weight is felt on their feet. The balance between manoeuvrability and speed offers an extra push off without feeling clingy. Once you start playing, you even forget that you have shoes on your feet.

Our verdict

The Mizuno Rebula 3 Elite FG is the real deal. It is a great reflection of Mizuno mastery and expertise in designing quality leather boots. We can proudly call it the ultimate leather boot when it comes to padding, touch, quality, lockdown and durability. It has given Mizuno competitors a run for their money. Mizuno made Rebula 3, intending to reclaim the disappearing glory. So, the engineers had to look at what would help them claim their name intensively. We can surely say they reclaimed back their glory with this boot. It involved a lot of work that won the hearts of many players.

The Rebula 3 is made from leather, giving it a silky smooth feel and soft on your foot. The interior support cage has the most minimal negative impact on allowing the soft leather to sit on your foot, giving you a Mizuno feel. This boot is thinner compared to the other two Rebula versions. The good thing is, despite it being thinner, the quality remains, and the boot still gives you soft padding and plush. Mizuno worked expertly for quite some time to make sure they delivered an outstanding leather boot. It would be ridiculous to suggest that there is any brand that makes better football boots than Mizuno.
